Our Story
In the 2000’s, Jason and Shirley Doan began Doan Math Academy for their three children, Jasmine, Jesse and Steven. From elementary school, their children were encouraged to discover creative ways to solve problems, to take courageous risks in complex problems, and to be confident in their ability to learn!
With this solid foundation, their children have ranked in prestigious local and national competitions, including National Honor Roll for AMC 8/10/12, 1st place individual in Hawaii State MathCounts, and AIME, USAJMO, USAMO Qualifier. Their children have perfect scores in PSAT Math, SAT Math, and ACT Math. Their children have received full-ride scholarships from top universities, including Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt and more.
In 2015, Doan Math Academy offered Hawaii’s first AMC8 & MathCounts Training Camp. Shirley and her eldest daughter, Jasmine worked together to develop the curriculum for this camp as well as multiple SAT Math Camps. In 2016 and 2017, Jesse and Steven published two training curricula for rising mathletes: The Ultimate Handbook for Winning Math Competitions and Elementary School Math Contests.
From 2015-2019, Jasmine participated in Stanford affiliated opportunities to teach math during the school year and summer at East Palo Alto, New York City, and San Jose. After graduating from Stanford, Jasmine taught Algebra 1 for three years at a college preparatory school in the Bay Area as well as pioneered its competitive math team program.
